Nanomaterials for Plasmonic Sensing (NPS)

The research activity of the Nanomaterials for Plasmonic Sensing (NPS) group at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili focuses on the rational design, synthesis, and optical characterization of plasmonic nanomaterials, with particular emphasis on their application in sensing.

The group develops metallic nanostructures with controlled composition, morphology, and surface chemistry, aiming to precisely tailor their plasmonic response and the associated local electromagnetic field enhancement. These nanomaterials are combined with plasmon-enhanced spectroscopies, most notably Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS), to achieve highly sensitive and selective detection of molecular targets in complex matrices.

By integrating a fundamental understanding of nanoscale plasmonic phenomena with application-oriented sensing strategies, the NPS group addresses analytical challenges relevant to environmental monitoring and bio-related systems, effectively bridging nanomaterials engineering and advanced spectroscopic transduction.
